Vernon Photography Club Code of Conduct

Any member that has a complaint regarding the Code of Conduct
is encouraged to contact any executive member(s) in confidence to facilitate a timely resolution.

Section One

Vernon Photography Club and its members, or contractors must, at all times, comply with all applicable municipal, provincial and federal laws and regulations, and as a Volunteer Organization, will conduct all business in a manner consistent with what is laid out in this Code of Conduct.
The Vernon Photography Club is held to all standards of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the BC Human Rights Code.

The Vernon Photography Club is committed to the fundamental principles of accountability and transparency as a matter of good governance and will be guided by the following principles:

I. Decision-making will be open and transparent

II. Operations will be conducted in an ethical and accountable manner

III. Financial resources and assets will be managed in an efficient and accountable manner

IV. Inquiries, concerns and complaints will be responded to in a timely manner

The Vernon Photography Club will foster a safe environment that allows all members to participate freely, without fear of reprisal or retribution.

The Vernon Photography Club is committed to the fundamental principles of integrity, ethical behaviour, accountability, and transparency as a matter of good governance and will be guided by the following principles:

CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION:
Confidential information includes information in the possession of, or received in confidence by the Vernon Photography Club. “Confidential Information” also means that no member shall disclose or release by any means to any member of the public, any confidential information acquired, in either oral or written form.  Members shall not use confidential information for personal or private gain, or for the gain of relatives or any person or corporation.

CONDUCT AT MEETINGS & EVENTS:
Members shall conduct themselves with decorum and respect at all meetings and club events.

CONDUCT RESPECTING ANY MEMBERS:
No member shall maliciously or falsely injure the professional or ethical reputation, or the prospects or practice of staff or volunteers, and all members shall show respect for the professional capacities of other members or volunteers.

UNACCEPTABLE CONDUCT:
All members of the Vernon Photography Club have a duty to treat one another, and members of the public appropriately and without abuse, bullying or intimidation, and to ensure that their Club experience is free from discrimination, and harassment.

Harassment refers to conduct which the perpetrator knew or ought reasonably to have known would be unwelcome. Harassment can take many forms but generally involves conduct, comment, or display that is insulting, demeaning, intimidating, humiliating, hurtful, belittling, malicious, degrading, or otherwise causes offence, discomfort, or personal humiliation or embarrassment to a person or group of persons.


Examples of gender harassment may manifest itself by:

· Inappropriate touching, suggestive or abusive remarks of a sexual nature, compromising invitations, sexual assault, coarse language of a sexual nature, displaying pornographic material or seeking sexual favours, partial or full nudity.
· Unwelcome remarks, jokes, innuendos, or taunts of sexual nature · Insulting gestures, jokes, disparaging written material based on race, ethnic background or gender that causes embarrassment or humiliation.

Section Two

The Vernon Photography Club is a community of volunteers with the mandate to enjoy and promote photography in our area. We strive to provide a productive, inclusive, respectful, diverse and cohesive community that welcomes new ideas in different areas, improve and grow existing areas of interest every year, and foster collaboration between members with varying needs and skills.

We gain strength from diversity, and will not tolerate prejudice.

The Code of Conduct governs not only how we conduct ourselves during meetings and events, but how we behave in public or private whenever the club will be judged by our actions.

As members of the Vernon Photography Club, we strive to:

Be considerate - Be respectful - Be collaborative - Be Inclusive

This Code of Conduct will be reviewed and may be modified from time to time and as deemed necessary at the discretion of the VPC executive.

Members are encouraged to contact and VPC executive with suggestions or concerns.

All applicants who join the Vernon Photography Club are obliged to annually sign a waiver.

The annual membership application has confirmation procedures that must be acknowledged for both this Code of Conduct and the Liability “Waiver”.
