Although not active in the club during much of Covid, Ray was a long-time and much-loved member of the club. Sadly, Ray passed away on May 16th 2022.
He was always an avid photographer and had spent many years serving on the club executive in various positions including President and Treasurer. He was also a regular evaluator until his eye problems got too bad. He loved going on camping and photo trips in his Westfalia camper, of which he was very proud. He was also a very active member of the North Okanagan Naturalist Club, participating in or leading most of their projects.
He was always an avid nature lover and in years past, he led photo outings/hikes to some of his favourite locations, which, as I remember, usually involved serious hiking on challenging terrain; you had to be in good shape to go on one of Ray’s outings.
Ray was always ready with a story, a quip, or a groan-inducing joke. Once, when his identical twin brother happened to be in Vernon on a club night, Ray had the idea to have him to come in alone at the start of the meeting, just to see if there was a reaction. He was a keen singer and musician and in past years would sometimes entertain members at club Christmas parties by singing and playing his harmonica. Ray will be missed by all.
