TWO EVALUATION CHOICES - VERNON PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

CHOICE 1:   EVALUATIONS LIMITED TO PROVIDING FEEDBACK

For members just wanting general feedback on their photograph such as first impression and what works in the image or if there are ways the image can be improved or modified.

Any suggestions are limited to general comments without going into complicated photographic terms or processes.

Very basic references will be made to “Elements of a Good Image.”

Choice 1 is a good option for:

  • New members just starting to submit photographs or have hesitated to submit their photographs up to today.
  • To just get general basic feedback if the photograph works or not and applying and any recommended changes.
  • Taking the photograph again (when possible), or a similar one and applying the suggestions provided on the initial image.

CHOICE 2: “A” EVALUATION - A MORE IN-DEPTH EVALUATION

For members wanting a more in-depth evaluation of their image and have placed an “A” at the beginning of the file name.

Evaluators will expect a higher photographic level in the “A” image submitted. Comments or suggestions will be more specific and may include references to advanced terms or processes.

Evaluators will expect the image to include most, if not all, the “Elements of a Good Image”.

  • Emotion and/or Impact or Other
  • Originality and/or Creativity, Insight
  • Story Telling (when applicable)
  • Centre of Interest
  • Composition
  • Colour Balance
  • Lighting
  • Technical excellence
  • Presentation (when applicable)

“A photograph is a type of communication that uses the language of visual elements and design principles to convey information, emotions, thoughts, ideas, concepts or feelings.”

“Evaluators do not just concentrate on the technical aspects or following the rules. Solely focusing on “composition” in an image leads to sterile, trite, and meaningless photography."
